AFTER its successful fifth technical audit, DITO Telecommunity Corp. has unveiled prepaid wireless home broadband services, targeting over six million households within its service area that have no internet service at home.
In partnership with Huawei Technologies, one of the global leaders in fifth generation (5G) deployment, the company launched last Friday DITO Home WOWFi, the first 5G RedCap technology Wi-Fi in the world for home usage that is powered by DITO’s Standalone (SA) network and offers up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps).
The company said its strategy is to democratize data by offering unlimited 5G prepaid wireless home broadband services for P799 per month, a better internet option, noted Evelyn Jimenez, DITO chief revenue officer for consumer business.
“In reality, the current internet options of Filipino households are quite limiting. You can get fast and unlimited Wi-Fi, but it won’t be cheap; you can get fast and affordable but not unlimited, and you can get affordable and unlimited, but it won’t be fast — this is the reality we live in. As the third telco committed to enhancing the lives of the Filipino people, we want to change the norm and disrupt the market by giving Filipinos the home internet they deserve — fast, unlimited, and affordable,” Jimenez said.
The new service is targeting the over 6 million households within its service area covering over 80 percent of the population.
“When we look at our data there’s probably more than 6 million households in our service area who have no internet for home,” Jimenez told reporters at the launch of the new offer.
DITO said out of its over 7,000 cell sites nationwide, over 2,000 cell sites are for 5G servicing major key cities in the country.
Currently, DITO has 100,000 home postpaid subscribers and it expects to end the year with 150,000 subscribers, added Jimenez.
With the launch of the prepaid home broadband service, the company expects to double its subscribers next year.
“The target is to end 150,000 this year, and therefore we really wanted to more than double by next year,” Jimenez said.
DITO is the sole telco operator in the country with a true 5G or 5G SA network to date, saying it can deliver this emerging technology.
Its new Home WOWFi is also the first in the world for home, driving the future for Internet of Things or smart home applications and supporting the growth of the digital economy, the company added.
DITO completed its fifth and last independent network audit with over P250 billion in investments and surpassed the required minimum average broadband speed of 85 Mbps.
The company exceeded its five-year commitment with the government of 84 percent network coverage and 55 Mbps minimum internet speed, after achieving over 86 percent population coverage and minimum average broadband speeds of 92.87 Mbps for 4G and 587.70 Mbps for 5G.
