DITO Telecommunity Corp. is aiming to grow its wireless broadband subscribers to as many as 1.2 million by 2026, focusing its expansion efforts on underserved areas nationwide.
At a media forum on July 1, DITO President and CEO Eric Alberto said the company currently serves about 250,000 subscribers through its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service. He said he expects that number to rise to between 1 million and 1.2 million over the next two years.
“Today, we have the capacity to serve about 3.6 million FWA subscribers, but we’re only at 250,000. There’s significant headroom,” Alberto said. “We’ve committed to reinvesting FWA revenues into expanding our 5G network footprint.”
DITO’s mobile network now covers 86 percent of the country, with 5G service available in about a quarter of that area. The company aims to double its 5G coverage to 50 percent in the medium term.
Alberto emphasized the role of wireless broadband in bridging the country’s digital divide. “Wired connections face infrastructure challenges. Wireless allows us to reach areas that fiber can’t. It’s faster to deploy, less costly, and more scalable.”
Supporting this push is DITO’s FWA service branded as WoWFi, which has been growing by roughly 1,200 new users daily, newly appointed chief revenue officer Adel Tamano said. The service recently hit the 250,000-subscriber mark.
“Of the country’s 24 million households, only 8 to 9 million have broadband access—and many of those connections are unreliable,” Tamano said. “FWA is our answer: fast, reliable, unlimited, and within reach for more Filipino homes.
