DITO subscribers hit 3M

DITO Telecommunity Corp. yesterday said it has reached the 3 million subscriber mark, and it will open more areas for commercial service to further ramp up its customer base.

In a statement, DITO said it opened 14 areas last September 17 and it will open five more on September 24.

These areas are in Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Pangasinan, Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, Quezon, Pampanga and Negros Oriental.

DITO, which began the commercial operations of its mobile service last March, recently passed the second audit and now covers 52.75 percent of the population with minimum average broadband speeds of 89.13 megabits per second (Mbps) and 853.85 Mbps for all fourth and fifth generation sites, respectively.

The company said it has integrated 3,094 towers and laid out 18,074 kilometers of land-based fiber optic cable, making its presence felt commercially in more than 233 cities since its launch last March.

The company is also investing P4 billion to roll out domestic fiber optic cables connecting Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. – Myla Iglesias
