Third telecom provider DITO Telecommunity Corp. is aiming to achieve 20 percent market share this year – double than current – as it is set to complete its more than P250-billion network rollout that forms part of its five-year commitment to the government.
As of the end of 2023, DITO had 10 million registered mobile subscribers which is equivalent to around 10 percent market share in the country’s mobile segment, said DITO president and chief executive officer Ernesto Alberto.
The company intends to double that 20 million by yearend.
“(The target is) 15-20 percent rightful share. At 84 percent brand-new network, we understand that it will take time and we need to do a better job at branding and introducing ourselves to the market. We don’t have legacy (network) and the way we engage the customer is non-legacy, particularly appealing to the younger market… We have the reason to gain our market share,” Alberto said.
The company will focus on its commercial rollout and monetizing its network investment over the last four years.
“Our plan now is to focus on gaining market share and focusing on commercial rollout and coming up with exciting new, differentiated products both on connectivity and broadband, mobile data, or fixed wireless,” Alberto told reporters last week.
DITO has also created products for the enterprise market, targeting both the large and small and medium enterprises.
“These are new commercial activities we are banking on in our desire to monetize the billions of dollars of investments we have in the past years,” Alberto said.
“Our network has a capacity north of 40 million subscribers. After we focus on the network rollout, it is now time to focus on monetization and commercialization of the network investment,” he added.
For 2024, DITO is allocating between P25 billion and P30 billion for capital expenditure to further enhance its network and cater to the commercial rollout of its new product offerings.
DITO expects to pass its fifth and last technical audit this year, with a commitment to cover 84 percent of the Philippine population and deliver a minimum average internet speed of 55 megabits per second (Mbps).
