Despite the stiff competition in the mobile market, third player DITO Telecommunity Corp. is optimistic about regaining 10 million subscribers by yearend, as its daily activation grew by 15 percent following the subscriber identity module (SIM) registration.
National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) data showed DITO’s mobile subscriber base stood at 7.74 million as of July 30, which is equivalent to 52 percent of its around 15 million subscriber base as of the end of 2022.
After the SIM registration deadline on July 30, including the five-day grace period to register, DITO has captured 8 percent of the market, coming from zero subscribers in February 2020, a significant market share which it intends to grow moving forward, said Adel Tamano, chief administrative officer of DITO.
Although almost half of its subscribers were deactivated after the SIM registration deadline, close to 100 percent of the telco’s registered users are revenue-generating subscribers, Evelyn Jimenez, DITO chief commercial officer, said last Thursday.
DITO expects its subscribers to reach about 9 million to 10 million by yearend, Jimenez added.
DITO posted 60 percent growth in revenues this year compared to last year and its average revenue per user has surged to P107 from P80 last year, noted Jimenez.
To further increase its revenue stream, the company will launch a new prepaid portfolio for the high-end market and will ramp up the launch of its home prepaid broadband services targeting underserved areas in the country.
Aside from home broadband, DITO said it will also launch services for the enterprise segment, targeting 5 to 18 percent of the market in the next three years.
Earlier, DITO parent firm DITO CME Holdings expressed optimism to pass its fourth technical audit with the NTC. The results are expected to be released this month.
The NTC requires DITO to undergo periodic technical audits to assess its readiness and capacity in line with its committed service level operation for five years.
Last year, DITO passed its third technical audit with a population coverage of 72.4 percent, surpassing its commitment of 70 percent.
It has also been offering minimum average broadband speeds of 71.77 megabits per second (Mbps) for 4G and 801.19 Mbps for 5G, way above its minimum average 55 Mbps commitment.
