DigiPlus Interactive Corp. has deferred its plan to develop an integrated gaming facility in Boracay to focus on its online gaming business.
Andy Tsui, DigiPlus president, said there is “no imminent plan” to develop the 24-hectare property given the higher margin that its online gaming is producing.
“We still remain focused on executing our digital transformation strategies which give us a higher margin. We believe that we can be the leading entertainment company in the Philippines as we continue to evolve with more new games and technologies,” Tsui said.
Tsui said the company is working on integrating its online platform with the physical sites to deliver a seamless and efficient experience for DigiPlus players.
“With the stronger footprint we serve better our players, and we can engage customer service team for faster and more efficient handling of transaction, that’s the purpose of these physical sites,” he said.
Last year, DigiPlus founder and former director of DigiPlus Albee Benitez floated the idea of restarting talks for a $500-million casino in Boracay.
This after the plan in 2017 to partner with Macau-based casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. was suspended. At the time, DigiPlus was still known as Leisure and Resorts World Corp.
In late 2019, Leisure and Resorts World said it was abandoning the plans.
In justifying the continued suspension, Tsui said DigiPlus is experiencing robust growth in its user base, with the company’s platform having a total of 40 million registered users.
“At the end of third quarter 2004, the monthly active user is somewhere around 4.5 million monthly active user, compared to end of 2023 of about 2 million active user. So, we’re growing quite rapidly in the last nine months,” Tsui said.
