THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has installed free Wi-Fi hotspots in new COVID-19 in quarantine centers in Metro Manila.
These are in Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila, Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and World Trade Center Metro Manila (WTCMM) in Pasay City. These quarantine centers provide venues to isolate suspected cases that hospitals are unable to accommodate.
The free Internet connectivity will help health workers in their submission of situation reports online. It will also alleviate fear and distress among frontliners and patients by allowing them to keep in-touch with their families and loved ones.
DICT has initially installed free Wi-Fi hotspots in more than 30 COVID-19 monitoring and control centers, as well as in five COVID-19 testing centers nationwide. Connectivity at these locations is expected to aid in the exchange of information during this crucial time.
Meanwhile, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has turned over newly-completed health facility at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) forum halls in Pasay City to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Medical Corps.
The makeshift hospital at PICC Forum Tent has 294 patient cubicles, and 6 nurse stations. A total of six smart houses outside the Forum building were also turned-over to PNP to be used by health workers.
Villar said that the PNP Medical Corps will manage the operation of the fully-airconditioned PICC health facility that will cater to patients with mild to moderate cases of corona virus disease. DPWH also completed the installation works of patient monitoring system at the Lung Center of the Philippines.
