The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) said it is launching the digital national ID this year, along with other key projects.
DICT secretary Ivan John Uy said the department also intends to complete phases 2 and 3 of the national fiber backbone infrastructure.
In an interview on the sidelines of the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines’ induction ceremony on Friday, Uy said its top priority project is the full rollout of the national ID system in line with the government’s directives.
“So, I think within the year, we should be able to fully launch (it) already,” Uy said.
The Digital national ID will be integrated into eGov Super App, which also includes the Professional Regulation Commission ID and driver’s license.
In June 2024, DICT and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) launched the Digital National ID with the authentication platforms National ID eVerify and National ID Check.
In addition, Phases 2 and 3 of the nationwide fiber backbone are expected to be completed within the year.
This fiber network coverage will run from southern Luzon and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. Phase 1 has already been completed, covering 1,245 kilometers of technical infrastructure from Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
