The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is looking to pursue digital cooperation with Denmark on cybersecurity, e-governance, digital health and maritime digital transition.

Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo, DICT undersecretary for public affairs and foreign relations, met with Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, ambassador of Denmark to the Philippines, to discuss areas for digital cooperation.

“Denmark is well advanced in developing and using digital solutions. Danes get digital mailboxes at birth. New technological solutions help them address the capacity challenge of a health worker shortage,” said Lamentillo.

“Denmark is also a pioneer in digital shipping registries and digital certificates for seafarers on Danish-flagged ships. These solutions have helped reduce administrative burdens, lower costs, and easier access to data. We hope to learn much from them in these areas,” she added.

DICT is exploring partnerships with other nations to further cooperation, exchange of knowledge, technical expertise and best practices on digitalization, among other programs of the agency.

Lamentillo said DICT is also finalizing the National Cybersecurity Plan, which will institutionalize the adoption and implementation of Information Security Governance and Risk Management approaches.

“These globally recognized standards shall provide the government a systematic and methodical practice of ensuring the protection of our mission-critical and non-critical infostructure. The government shall also build up its capability and capacity for quick response and recovery through the establishment of the National Computer Emergency Response Team,” she said.

Early this year, DICT signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information and China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Aside from these countries, DICT is eyeing to pursue digital cooperation with the United States and Japan, and to bring new technology that will further improve telecom services in the country. – Myla Iglesias
