The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) assured the public on Monday that the eGov PH App, with approximately 18 million users, had neither been hacked nor compromised.
DICT, in a statement on Monday, September 22, clarified a report circulating online over the alleged data breach involving eGov PH, with claims that more than 30,000 complainant records were exposed.
DICT said that the incident involves one of the many third-party systems integrated with eGov PH. This eComplaints system is managed separately from the eGov PH App’s core infrastructure.
“At this time, there is no evidence of a data breach within the eGov PH App. All personal information stored within the eGov platform remains secure, encrypted, and protected by strict cybersecurity protocols in line with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and internationally recognized standards.” DICT added.
As part of its commitment to transparency and data protection, DICT said it will release updates as soon as more verified information becomes available.
The DICT said it is steadfast in its mission to provide secure, reliable, and citizen-centric digital services. “Safeguarding the privacy of Filipino citizens is our highest priority, and we will continue to strengthen our systems to prevent similar incidents in the future,” DICDT said.
As of early September, eGov Super App users reached around 18 million, up 28.6 percent from 14 million in July this year. The number is expected to increase to 30 to 40 million users by next year, given the current average of 80,000 to 100,000 downloads per day, according to DICT undersecretary for e-Government David Almirol Jr.
The eGov Super App integrates key government services into a single digital platform, making it easier for Filipinos to access essential services. Among its most widely used features is the digital national ID, which can be used for PhilHealth transactions, online banking applications, and various national government services such as securing a driver’s license, permits, and other official documents.
The agency is also working with the Land Transportation Office and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to link the app with the No Contact Apprehension Program, allowing motorists to check and settle traffic violations through the platform.
Other new features include the TESDA e-Certificate, CHED Transcript Verification, ARTA e-Complaint System, and BIR ePIN Number. Users can now view their ePIN numbers directly in the app. Additionally, the app features an integrated e-Wallet and OFW Card, which enables users to access their e-wallet, national ID, and OFW card in one place. Other new features include eLGU Services.
