The Department of Agriculture (DA) has reconstituted the Inter-Agency Livestock Data Analytics Group (LDAG) to enhance the agency’s ability to make informed, data-driven decisions in managing the meat and poultry sectors.

The DA said in a statement on Monday, April 21, it has issued Special Order (SO) 599 series of 2025, reviving LDAG to ensure market stability and protect both producers and consumers amid price volatility and supply fluctuations.

SO 599 was signed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. on April 10 but was only made public yesterday.

The agency said the LDAG will streamline the collection, analysis, and reporting of key livestock and poultry data to improve planning, forecasting, and policy formulation, which will be chaired by Dante Palabrica, DA Undersecretary for Livestock.

“We need up-to-date data on market trends and behavior to ensure that the policies we formulate and the actions we take safeguard and promote the growth of the industry—even as we protect consumers… The market is dynamic, hence the need for better and more reliable information for accurate forecasts and timely decisions,” Tiu Laurel said in the statement.

The DA added the LDAG will coordinate closely with the Philippine Statistics Authority to define and address data requirements, apart from collaborating with commodity focal points across agencies, to collect and consolidate data on livestock and poultry production, inventory levels, farmgate prices, cold storage stocks, and production costs.

The group will also generate scenario-based supply and demand outlooks, develop trend analyses, and produce regular reports such as livestock and poultry situationers to inform officials of the agency on key developments in the pork, chicken, egg, and dairy sectors.

LDAG will also conduct regular consultations with industry stakeholders to validate data and enhance the relevance of its findings, ensuring alignment between government action and actual market conditions.

Based on the latest DA monitoring of public markets in the National Capital Region, on Tuesday last week, the prevailing prices of pork ham ranged from P335 to P400 per kg; pork belly from P370 to P470 per kg; frozen kasim from P225 to P280 per kg; frozen liempo from P290 to P350.

Meanwhile, beef rump ranged from P400 to P510 per kg, beef brisket at P320 to P460 per kg, whole chicken at P160 to P220 per kg and medium sized white chicken egg at P7.50 to P9 per piece.
