The Department of Agriculture (DA) will deliver 5,000 kilograms (kg.) of Benguet vegetables to Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon until September to address oversupply.
Prices of Chinese cabbage last week fell to a range of P8 to P20 per kg. from P10.53 to P53.33 per kg. prior to the pandemic.
Production cost is at P8.60 per kg.
As of August 14, the DA-Cordillera Administrative Region has bought 4.5 tons of cabbage.
Cordillera vegetables will be sold to Kadiwa outlets.
From September to December, the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC) in La Trinidad will serve as the buyer of last resort.
The BAPTC is the region’s main wholesale vegetable trading center. It will soon have a P20- million vegetable and fruit processing facility.
