Fiber broadband operator Converge ICT Solutions Inc. yesterday said its fiber network in North Luzon is now completely redundant.
“This means if there should be a fiber break in the area, services will continue,” Dennis Anthony Uy, Converge chief executive officer, said in a statement.
A network is deemed redundant when it has alternate links — network devices and elements — in its infrastructure that will ensure connectivity in case there is an interruption in one part of the network. This means having a “network back-up” that ensures availability and stability of the service.
Converge said it is also set to finish the “total fiberization” of Pangasinan and La Union this month as it reaches the major cities and municipalities in these provinces where broadband services are urgently needed.
In other regions in North Luzon, Converge is mounting a continued push for “deepening” the network, and started servicing 14 new cities and municipalities across Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Quirino.
In the second quarter of 2021, the company has extended its coverage to an additional 53 cities and municipalities from the quarter before, and has passed 8.1 million households as of end-June 2021.
Converge said it remains on track to cover 55 percent of Philippine households with its fiber optic network by 2025. – Myla Iglesias
