Globe Telecom Inc. and Dito Telecommunity Corp. yesterday warned customers over the illegal selling of modems and WiFi devices.
In a statement, Globe said it found out that an illegal activity is being perpetuated by certain individuals and online stores passing off Globe At Home WiFi modems as Dito modems by putting Dito stickers on the gadgets.
The modus is done through the unauthorized unlocking of the Globe device, substituting the Globe SIM with a Dito subscriber identity module (SIM) and concealing the Globe At Home trademark with a sticker of Dito.
“We are prepared to take the necessary legal action against these unscrupulous individuals and establishments carrying out these deceptive business practices, through the assistance of law enforcement authorities,” Globe said.
In response, Adel Tamano, Dito chief administrative officer, said: “There are no official Dito modems or pocket WiFi devices that have been launched at this time. Dito cannot and will not guarantee the performance and service should our SIM cards be used in these unauthorized devices in the market today.”
“We are in the process of testing compatible devices and will add to the list those that will pass our internal testing,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dito urged customers to purchase Dito SIM cards only from its partners, resellers, Dito stores and official online partner stores to avoid any issues.
“Furthermore, we wish to inform everyone that there are unscrupulous individuals selling Dito so-called vanity or special numbers at exorbitant prices. Please be reminded that all Dito SIM cards no matter the mobile number are priced the same and we at Dito do not condone this practice,” Tamano said.
