Clark taps SK or builder to spruce up 2 Pampanga river parks

The Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) has tapped Seoul-based Kyong-Ho Engineering & Architects to study the development of two flagship projects under the agency’s urban renewal program in Pampanga.

In a statement on Wednesday, CIAC President and CEO Jojit Alcazar said the agency recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kyong-Ho Engineering  to spruce up the Dolores River Park and the Clark Aviation Park.

Alcazar said that under CIAC’s vision, Dolores River Park will draw inspiration from international benchmarks such as Singapore’s Clarke Quay and transform the public access surrounding the Dolores River  into a tourism and recreational destination.

The project will stretch 3.9 kilometers along Clark’s Creekside Road and runs parallel to the Sacobia River, which separates the provinces of Pampanga and Tarlac,  Alcazar said.

CIAC envisions  the Dolores River Park to feature green landscapes, biodiversity enhancements, sustainable mobility infrastructure, and innovative urban design, Alcazar, who was appointed in November 2024, said.

“The Dolores River Park project exemplifies our commitment to transforming Clark into a model of sustainable urban development that drives both regional and national growth,” Alcazar added.

Key features of the projects include water catchment systems, integration of commercial and natural elements, and a strong emphasis on sustainability, the CIAC said in a project brief.

The project aims to contribute to mitigating the depletion of water resources through advanced water management techniques while enhancing the area’s ecological and recreational value, the CIAC said.

Alcazar said the Clark Aviation Park will serve as a  community center equipped with a rainwater harvesting and filtration system to support park operations and demonstrate sustainable development.

Under the MOU, CIAC and Kyong-Ho Engineering  will conduct initiatives on  joint research and development, technology transfer, technical training, knowledge exchange sessions, and capacity-building programs for the development of the two projects.

The South Korean firm specializes in comprehensive construction engineering services including planning, feasibility studies, design, maintenance, and project management, CIAC said.

The Dolores River Park and Clark Aviation Park are two of the major components of the province’s Urban Renewal and Heritage Center Conservation programs.

They are also designed to integrate sustainable water management solutions to ensure stable supply in Pampanga.
