Cignal TV Inc., a pay television unit of PLDT Inc., is set to finalize this week discussions with Lopez-owned ABS-CBN Corp. on its offer to launch the Kapamilya program on the cable network.
Manuel Pangilinan, Cignal TV and PLDT chairman, said Cignal is assessing the proposal of ABS-CBN.
Cignal competes with ABS-CBN’s cable unit, Sky Cable which offers both cable and direct -to-home satellite television services in the country.
Pangilinan said there are no ongoing talks between TV5 (Network Inc.) and ABS-CBN on a blocktime deal.
“We’re open to it (blocktime), but there are other factors to consider,” he said.
Cignal and TV5 are subsidiaries of MediaQuest Holdings, the media and content arm of the PLDT Group of Companies.
Cignal TV a direct to home satellite provider with over 2 million subscribers. It transmits 89 standard definition (SD) and 31 high definition channels, including free-to-air and a varied mix of 17 audio channels.
