The toll hike at the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) Parañaque toll plaza will push through on May 22.
In cooperation with the Toll Regulatory Board,”¯Cavitex”¯Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) and its joint venture partner Philippine Reclamation Authority will implement the new toll rates for the Cavitex R-1 segment this Sunday, after this was deferred last May 12.
CIC said the toll hike was deferred to provide more time for the registration of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators to the”¯toll reprieve program, which allows them to continue to enjoy the old toll rates of”¯P25 for class 1 and”¯P50 for class 2 through a rebate program.
The toll reprieve program is a system driven via the radio frequency identification (RFID), so all PUV operators and drivers”¯must enroll their RFID accounts to the program in coordination with”¯their different transport organizations. The program will run for 90 days starting on”¯Day 1 of the implementation of the new toll rates.
The program is expected to benefit all drivers and operators of the 1,420 PUVs that ply through Cavitex.
The following is the new toll fee matrix (value-added tax-inclusive): P33 for class 1 vehicles from the current P25, P67 for class 2 from P50, and P100 for class 3 from P75.
CIC said the new rates are inclusive of the 2011 and”¯2014 periodic toll petitions, and add-on toll petition for enhancement works done in the expressway, which includes bridge lane widening works.
It added that among the enhancements done were the completion of asphalt overlay along the entire stretch of Cavitex, provision of the Pacific flyover and left turn facility, bridge widenings, and its regular heavy maintenance works to ensure road quality and safeness for the motorists, which is currently being enjoyed by the 160,000 average daily motorists of Cavitex. – Myla Iglesias
