Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) and its joint venture partner Philippine Reclamation Authority yesterday opened to the motoring public the new 1.6-kilometer Cavitex C5 Link flyover extension that will be toll free until end of September this year.
This new segment of the Cavitex C5 Link connects to the operational 2.2-km flyover that provides convenient access and improved travel time for motorists bound for C5 road in Taguig from Merville, Parañaque, and vice versa.
With the opening of the flyover extension, CIC said a new traffic scheme will be implemented for motorists entering the expressway in Merville. Vehicles from Parañaque going to Taguig shall now pass into the new C5 Link Flyover Merville entry located in front of Shell C5 Southlink, Brgy. Moonwalk, Parañaque.
“More than 15,000 motorists going to Taguig from Parañaque and vice versa are expected to benefit with this new segment of Cavitex C5 Link. We urge everyone to utilize Easytrip RFID to avoid the long line at cash lanes and maximize the benefit of shorter travel time,” Raul Ignacio, CIC president and general manager, said during the opening ceremony over the weekend.
The Toll Regulatory Board has approved the provisional toll for the now extended Cavitex C5 Link: P37 for Class 1 vehicles; P74, Class 2; and P112, Class 3, but implementation will be deferred to September as the company’s goodwill to motorists.
“We encourage motorists to use the Cavitex C5 Link flyover extension while it still has no additional charge, for them to enjoy the added benefit,” said Ignacio.
Cavitex C5 Link is a 7.7-km segment of Cavitex or the Manila-Cavite expressway that will connect to Cavitex R1 Parañaque toll plaza, helping reduce travel time from Cavitex to Makati, Taguig and Pasay by 30 to 45 minutes and decongest EDSA, MIA road, Roxas boulevard and other major thoroughfares.
More than 50,000 motorists will benefit from this project upon its full completion in 2023.
As for its other segments, construction of Segment 2 of the Cavitex C5 Link, which will connect other segments to Cavitex R-1 expressway in Parañaque, is now 30 percent complete based on the latest project update.
Once connected, this segment will shorten the travel time from Cavite to Sucat and decongest local roads such as Sucat road and Quirino avenue.
CIC offers motorists free Easytrip RFID installation and checkup at the Cavitex C5 Link Customer Service Center. Motorists pay P200 for the initial load of the new Easytrip account.
The opening ceremony was graced by Manny Pangilinan, Metro Pacific Investments Corp. chairman; Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista; Maria Catalina Cabral, Public Works undersecretary for planning and public-private partnership; and Senator Mark Villar, among others. – Myla Iglesias
