The five-kilometer Candaba 3rd Viaduct project is on track to be completed by November this year, according to NLEX Corp.

At present, the project is 50 percent complete, following the installation of the first girder which marks the pivotal transition from groundwork-heavy construction to road-level work, minimizing the project’s dependence on ground access, the company said.

This ensures that work can continue in all-weather conditions, it added.

The Candaba 3rd Viaduct project is situated between two existing bridges connecting the towns of Pulilan, Bulacan and Apalit, Pampanga.

Upon its completion, the Candaba Viaduct will be widened to three lanes with inner and outer shoulders in each direction, thereby enhancing safety and mobility for motorists.

“This remarkable achievement shows NLEX’s commitment to complete the project by November 2024. We are very glad that our chosen construction partner, Leighton Contractors (Asia) Limited, is one with us in our objective to expedite work on the project while prioritizing the safety of all workers and ensuring the structural soundness of the new bridge,” J. Luigi Bautista, NLEX Corp. president and general manager, said in a statement.

This milestone coincides with the project’s attainment of one million safe manhours, reflecting a culture of safety and a conducive work environment in the construction of the Candaba 3rd Viaduct, the company said.

Aside from the Candaba project, the company has two major infrastructure projects in the pipeline: the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) C5-Link and expansion of NLEX San Fernando to Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) Spur in Mabalacat.

The fi rst two kilometers of the NLEX C5-Link, between the Mindanao Avenue toll plaza to Quirino Highway in Novaliches, is set to begin construction by the second quarter of 2024 to address daily traffic gridlock at a congested portion of Mindanao Avenue.
