The government eyes to cut down further the processing time for business permits to as fast as 10 minutes.

At the post-State of the Nation Address discussions in Pasay City yesterday, undersecretary Geneses Abot of the Anti-Red Tape Authority, said at present, the fastest processing has been reported in a local government unit (LGU) in the National Capital Region at 30 minutes, or half the time than the current mandate of one hour.

“(The one-hour) processing time for business permits is already achievable although not all LGUs are doing that,” said Abot, adding that some LGUs are able to process in a day.

“The 10 minutes, that’s an ambitious number but we want to do that.We want all LGUs to be able to have their business process reduced by at least half or more by the end of the year,” Abot said.

Abot also reported that of the 10,634 cities and municipalities in the Philippines, 1,178 have declared themselves to have automated their business processes.

However, this is not yet fully compliant with the Ease of Doing Business law as ARTA has yet to validate the compliance.

Of the 1,178 cities and municipalities, 741 of them have adopted the E- LGU of the Department of Information and Communication. Abot said 46 cities and municipalities are fully compliant with the Electronic Business One-Stop Shop (E-BOSS) which reduces the processing time to register businesses.

Abot said aside from E-BOSS, ARTA also has digitalization projects, such as the Philippine Business Regulations Information System, a database of all the business regulations and the Anti-Red Tape Electronic Management Information System, a database of all the government agencies of their services.
