Electronic payment (e-payment) collections in the first 10 months of 2024 reached P2.06 trillion, accounting for 85 percent of overall collections during the period, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) reported yesterday.

In a video presentation during the agency’s national tax campaign kick-off in Pasay City, the BIR identified some of its accomplishments last year, highlighting its digital transformation programs.

The BIR has yet to release the requested 2023 comparative figures on e-payment collections.

The bureau also said there were 5.78 million e-payment transactions from January to November 2024, accounting for 38 percent of total transactions.

On the sidelines of the said event, BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. said more taxpayers are now conducting their internal revenue transactions online.

“The digital transformation of the BIR is becoming successful because we can see that more and more people are using our e-services, the commissioner said.

“However, I always remind everyone to be patient with the ongoing process. There will be glitches along the way, but rest assured that these will be resolved. In the future, all our services will be more convenient and seamless,” he added.

According to the commissioner the bureau has observed a yearly increase in the number of people choosing its e-services, including online filing and e-payment.

“There is still room for improvement, and we expect even more users since this has become a mandate and more of our fellow citizens are adopting it,” he added.

In his speech, Lumagui reiterated that the BIR collected more than P2.86 trillion last year, which is around 13.33 percent higher than the tax collection in 2023.

It also exceeded the 2024 emerging goal of P2.848 trillion.

“This is not only the highest revenue collection ever recorded in the bureau’s history but the first time in 20 years that the bureau was able to reach the target set by the Development Budget Coordination Committee,” Lumagui said.

This year, the BIR’s programmed collection goal is P3.232 trillion.
