The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) did not receive any bids for the second round of competitive selection process (CSP) of 300 megawatts (MW) worth of peaking contract capacity starting April 26.

The deadline for submission was last April 12.

Lawrence Fernandez, Meralco vice president and head of utility economics department, said the Third-Party Bids and Awards Committee (TPBAC) of the CSP can now have direct negotiations with suppliers.

“The TPBAC declared a failed bid, in accordance with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) CSP guidelines and reported the same to the distribution utility (DU),” said Fernandez.

Ronald Valles, Meralco first vice president and head of regulatory management office, said the PSA is short term and is supposed to last until the July supply month this year.

“We are open to receive offers from all interested generation companies for possible negotiation. At the moment, we have not received any definitive offer yet,” Valles said.

Valles assured Meralco has so far secured 480 MW of additional power for the summer supply months.

Meralco is bent on securing additional power supply to assure customers of stable service for the dry season.
