THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) is expected to issue an administrative order (AO) that will impose higher service fees at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) prior to the airport’s scheduled turnover to private concessionaire New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) by September.
The DOTr is on track to turn over the operation and management of NAIA to the private sector on September 14, according to Timothy John Batan, DOTr undersecretary for planning.
Prior to the turnover, the proposed increase in passenger service charges, terminal fees, and landing and takeoff fees will be approved, Batan said, adding the draft AO is still under review.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista earlier said the service fee adjustment at NAIA will be implemented by 2025.
Bautista said terminal fees will likely increase to P950 from the current P550 for international passengers.
The last increase in terminal fees was imposed 24 years ago.
Last March, NNIC composed of conglomerates San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics, Inc., RLW Aviation Development Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp., signed the concession agreement with the government for the P170.6- billion NAIA modernization project initially for 15 years which is subject to extension for another 10 years.
