Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) yesterday said water level in Angat Dam is sufficient to not cause supply interruption in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
But Patrick James Dizon, MWSS division manager for Angat-Ipo operation management, said in a televised interview interruptions may still occur to give way for leak repairs, maintenance of facilities and meter replacements.
“At present, water level in Angat Dam is sufficient, paired with the augmentation measures that we implemented,” Dizon said.
Dizon said MWSS, the National Water Resources Board, National Irrigation Administration and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration, continue to manage the levels of the dam especially that its elevation historically drops during the summer months.
Based on the National Power Corp.’s data as of yesterday morning, Angat Dam’s elevation is at 213.45 meters which is above the 212 meters normal high water level of the facility.
MWSS earlier expressed confidence water supply will be sufficient even with the expected effect of El Nino until the second quarter of this year.
Still, the agency continues to encourage the public to be wise in the consumption.
The Angat Dam supplies raw water for the MWSS service areas in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite and Rizal Provinces. It also provides water for irrigation services in Bulacan and Pampanga.
