The Department of Energy (DOE) has approved the increase in the registered capacity of the Tanay wind power project of Alternergy Holdings Corp. to 128 megawatts (MW) from 112 MW.
The company said in a statement yesterdaywith the DOE’s approval, the Tanay wind power project will install a total of 16 wind turbine generators with a rated capacity of 8 MW each, the largest onshore wind tower to be installed in the country to date.
Construction started in June with target commercial operations by end 2025.
“We are pleased to receive the DOE’s approval to increase the registered capacity of our Tanay wind power project. We conducted a technical optimization study which showed that the potential net energy within the production area could generate as much as 128 MW of capacity,” said Knud Hedeager, Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp. (AWHC) president.
AWHC is a sub-holding company of Alternergy wind assets which owns 100 percent of Alternergy Tanay Wind Corp., which in turn leads the development of the wind power project in Rizal province.
Alternergy said the construction of the Tanay wind power project has secured financing of up to P8 billion from the Bank of the Philippine Islands and Security Bank.
The project is Alternergy’s second wind project in Rizal Province, in addition to the existing 54 MW Pililla Rizal wind farm which has been operating since 2015.
Alternergy targets to achieve a portfolio of 500 MW worth of RE by 2026. Its RE portfolio stands at 86 MW.
