WITH the anticipated surge in air travelers during Undas, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has assured that the Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) system is fully operational and it has contingency plans in place to minimize potential flight disruptions during this peak travel period.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista conducted an inspection to assess the operational efficiency of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines’ (CAAP) CNS/ATM systems on October 30 and convened the 12 area managers to discuss the effective implementation of “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Undas 2024” in the 44 CAAP-operated airports.
With the upgrade to ATM system software version 22.2, CAAP has ensured that safety and security features have been added, guaranteeing reliable operations.
CAAP airports are proactively reinforcing facility safety measures to prioritize the well-being and resilience of affected areas in preparation for Typhoon Leon.
“Our airports are on heightened alert, not only for the expected surge in passengers but also in response to Typhoon Leon. While some of our affected airports have already recovered from the Typhoon Kristine, we continue to support relief operations for those impacted. I have also directed our Area Managers to provide continuous reports on the status of our facilities,” said Manuel Antonio Tamayo, CAAP director general.
CAAP expects passenger traffic to increase by 7 to 10 percent during this year’s Undas from 2.1 million last year.
