AirAsia Philippines yesterday said it has hired over 50 cabin crew employees in preparation for the increase in travel demand in the second half of the year.

In a recruitment event held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 last June 11, a total of 996 cabin crew have applied, of which 32 passed the hiring process and will undergo a training program as they prepare to be deployed across key hubs and destinations, both domestic and international.

The airline said the new batch is on top of the 22 hibernated cabin crew, particularly pilots and flight attendants, who were reactivated and will undergo requalification training next month. It is looking at recruiting pilots toward the fourth quarter.

AirAsia Philippines is launching new routes like Roxas City and restarting the ones paused over the pandemic such as Seoul, said Ricky Isla, chief executive officer.

The airline increased its seats sold by 394 percent in June 2022, with forward bookings exceeding forecast at 90 percent for the month of July and 104 percent for August.

Starting June 15, AirAsia Philippines is flying to Caticlan 44 times weekly; Iloilo, 28 times weekly; Tacloban, 58 times weekly; Tagbilaran, 21 times weekly; Puerto Princesa, 20 times weekly; Bacolod, 21 times weekly; Davao, 14 times weekly; Cagayan, 18 times weekly; Kalibo, 27 times weekly; and Cebu, 28 times weekly.

“We expect to achieve 100 percent of our pre-COVID flight frequency by September 2022 for domestic and 65 percent of international frequency by December,” Isla said.
