Airbnb activities contributed $840 million (P45.7 billion ) to the Philippines’ Gross Domestic Product and supported almost 103,800 jobs in 2022, new research from Oxford Economics said.
The report commissioned by Airbnb said guests spent a total of $876 million (P47.7 billion) in restaurants, retail stores and on transportation.
The study added more than half of the amount went to domestic Airbnb guest spending which totalled $445 million (P24.2 billion).
The report further noted one in every 77 jobs in the tourism industry in the Philippines was associated with Airbnb.
The report covers results for 12 months ending March 2023, representing the first full year after the reopening of international travel.
The report noted the dispersal of tourism away from urban areas, and long-term stays driven by the emergence of flexible work arrangements. – Irma Isip
