The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is ready to handle the anticipated 7 percent to 10 percent passenger volume growth this holiday season.

In an interview during Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Eric Apolonio, CAAP spokesperson, said the passenger volume in the 44 CAAP operated airports is projected to reach 2.2 million this December, compared to the 2 million domestic and international passengers recorded in the same period last year.

He said the influx of domestic tourists drives the growth.

Starting December 15, CAAP has been on heightened alert in anticipation of the expected higher volume of air passengers during the Christmas and New Year seasons.

Under the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2023” that runs from December 15 to Jan. 3, 2024, added security measures and additional deployment of service and security personnel are now being observed in all 12 area centers handling CAAP airports accepting commercial flights to ensure safe, reliable and convenient airport operations, as returning overseas Filipinos, civilians and tourists travel for the holiday season.

Government agencies operating at the airports, including the Office of Transportation Security and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, will also deploy personnel in areas of concern to ensure smooth passenger flow, while strictly implementing security and public safety protocols.

Malasakit Help Desks stationed at passenger arrival and departure areas are also ready to provide travelers with assistance and immediate answers to the concerns of the riding public.

Additionally, travelers are reminded not to bring prohibited items to the airport and to stow all belongings in one’s carry-on baggage for faster processing at the screening checkpoints.

In December 2022, CAAP airports welcomed over 2 million domestic and international passengers and a total of 20.5 million passengers for full year 2022.
