The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) expects 7 to 10 percent growth in passenger traffic in all its 42 operating airports nationwide this Holy Week.
In an interview at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Eric Apolonio, CAAP spokesperson, said historically, the passenger volume grows by 7 to 10 percent during that period.
Last year, the total passenger volume in all its operated airports grew almost 30 percent to 26.6 million from the previous year’s 20.7 million passengers, said Apolonio.
CAAP expects a significant improvement in its operation once the airport master plan is completed, Apolonio added.
With this initiative, CAAP will conduct a review of the current state of civil aviation in the Philippines, including infrastructure, operations, regulatory framework, national and regional policy, and international standards.
Following this assessment, a benchmarking analysis will be conducted to compare it with those of other Asean countries as well as the best practices observed in the European Union.
To ensure the successful development of the master plan, the Philippines will receive assistance from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
Meanwhile, as part of CAAP’s 16th anniversary month-long celebration, which aligns with the Fire Prevention Month, the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting team at Sangley Airport conducted a comprehensive fire prevention orientation for all airport personnel.
“I commend area managers and CAAP personnel for conducting various activities to make our 16th anniversary significant. You have shown unity to promote inclusivity and service to the community, aside from accomplishing our goal of providing safe, affordable, and comfortable travel for Filipinos,” Manuel Antonio Tamayo, CAAP director general, said.
