ASIAN Development Bank (ADB) president Masatsugu Asakawa has expressed his intention to resign from his post, effective February 23 next year.

In a statement, Asakawa informed board members, management and staff of the Manila-based multilateral agency of his plan to resign.

“After careful consideration and reflection, I believe it is time to step aside and make way for new leadership with fresh perspectives and renewed energy,” Asakawa said.

“By announcing my resignation now, I aim to ensure a smooth and orderly transition of leadership,” he added.

Asakawa has been serving as ADB President since January 17, 2020. During his term, the multilateral agency confronted unprecedented challenges, most notably the global health crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As I prepare to conclude my tenure, I take great pride in what we have accomplished together,” Asakawa said.
