Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. (ACR) through its subsidiary, Conal Holdings Corp. (CHC), is seeking approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for the construction of dedicated point-to-point limited transmission facilities to connect a power plant in Bohol to the Visayas grid.

The company said the project, which will connect a diesel power plant to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) Ubay substation, is worth $2.28 million, equivalent to P112.11 million.

In a filing approved for posting by the ERC, CHC said the project seeks to connect the up to 95.2 megawatts (MW) In-Island Backup Diesel Power Plant to the grid through NGCP’s Ubay substation.

The power plant project will be implemented in two phases, with the 57.57 MW phase one set to be energized within the year while the full dependable capacity of 85.17 MW is scheduled to be energized by 2026, CHC added.

The project is expected to stabilize Bohol’s power supply and act as the island’s backup power to ensure it maintains a 24/7 supply even if Bohol gets isolated from the Visayas grid due to natural disasters which was previously experienced.

Based on the system impact studies conducted with NGCP, the power plant’s connection to the Ubay substation was found to be “technically acceptable,” CHC said.

ERC has set a pre-trial conference on May 8 for CHC’s application.

Apart from the Bohol diesel plant, ACR is also currently developing three renewable projects: the 14.5 MW Siguil hydro power plant in Sarangani, 37.8 MW hybrid Siayan hydro-solar power plant in Zamboanga del Norte and the 42 MW Bago hydro power plant in Negros Occidental.

ACR’s current energy portfolio has an aggregate capacity of 468 MW that serves over eight million people across 14 cities and 11 provinces.
