ACEN Corp., through its subsidiary Gigawind4 Inc., is eyeing the development of the P35.52-billion Banahaw onshore wind power project in Tayabas, Quezon Province.

According to a document submitted by the company to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the project’s capacity may reach up to 247 megawatts (MW).

The document also stated that Gigawind4 will pursue the project through the construction of 38 wind turbine generators, each with a standard rated power of 6.5 MW.

In addition to the wind turbines, the project will involve the construction of access and internal roads totaling approximately 36 kilometers, a road drainage network, and a substation.

The company noted in its filing that Calabarzon—the region where the project is being developed—is a strategic location due to its proximity to Metro Manila, making it a critical supplier of power to the country’s capital.

Gigawind4 added that the Banahaw wind power project will not only provide additional renewable energy supply but will also benefit host municipalities and barangays through economic growth, community development, environmental stewardship, and social progress.

If pursued, the project is expected to generate real property tax revenue that can be directed toward building essential community infrastructure such as modernized schools, upgraded road networks, and bridges.

The company further stated that the wind project will create opportunities for businesses to thrive, resulting in increased job creation, higher local income, and an improved quality of life for residents.

ACEN did not specify a timeline for the project but noted that it will require approximately three years for the pre-development phase and another two to three years for actual development and construction.

As a group, ACEN aims to increase its renewable energy capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030 to help provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to more people, and to become a Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050.

Currently, the company’s total wind capacity—both operational and under construction—stands at 1,824 MW from projects located across the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Lao PDR, and the United States.

ACEN also has energy projects in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Taiwan. ***
