ACEN Corp. through its retail supply arm ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) has partnered with the National Teachers College (NTC) for the renewable energy supply of the school.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with NTC in their journey towards a greener future. This collaboration serves as a powerful testament to the growing commitment of educational institutions to environmental responsibility. ACEN RES is firmly dedicated to empowering organizations like NTC with clean and sustainable energy solutions,” said Eric Francia, ACEN president and chief executive officer, in a statement.

The parties said NTC’s shift to renewable energy was facilitated by the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) of the government which allows qualified power consumers to purchase electricity directly from licensed renewable energy suppliers like ACEN RES.

Securing such program allows for a more cost-effective energy procurement compared to traditional distribution utilities.

However, the parties did not disclose the terms of the RE supply deal.

“Part of our mission is to encourage more businesses to be sustainable. We believe that transitioning to renewable energy is a quick win for companies aspiring to accelerate their sustainability journey because power is among the primary drivers of cost and carbon emissions across industries,” said Tony Valdez, ACEN senior vice president for market transformation, in a statement.

Valdez said because of GEOP, customers no longer have to spend on installing new equipment like solar panels or worry about maintenance and disruption to their operations to utilize RE as they can now just choose a reputable and reliable energy partner to tap.

NTC is a higher education institution which provides accessible quality education and training to future educators and professionals across various disciplines.

In 2018, NTC officially became part of AC Education, the education arm of Ayala Corp. AC Education was later merged with iPeople, a partnership between the Yuchengco Group of Companies and Ayala Corp., which aims to deliver accessible and quality education.

ACEN as a group, is one of the fastest growing renewable energy platforms in the Asia Pacific. The company has effectively achieved its goal of reaching 5 gigawatts (GW) of renewables capacity by 2025, with attributable capacity representing 4.7 GW of installed projects and 1 GW of signed agreements or won competitive tenders.

ACEN aims to increase its renewable capacity to 20 GW by 2030 to help provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to more people and to also become a Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050.

Apart from the Philippines, ACEN also currently has projects in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, India, United States and Taiwan.
