ACEN Corp. through ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) has been tapped by Globe Telecom Inc. as the telco shifts 20 of its facilities to 100 percent renewable energy (RE).
The parties said in a statement yesterday three other sites are in the process of transitioning, with guaranteed RE supply from ACEN, before the end of the year.
Globe said the facilities include its corporate headquarters in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, which shifted to RE in 2019, with more sites set for transitioning this year.
By transitioning to RE, these facilities avoided an estimated 42,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere from Globe’s 2023 consumption.
At present, Globe operates 29 RE-powered sites and aims to expand this to nearly 70 within the next two years.
Out of the 29, Globe said 20 are supported by ACEN under medium-to-long-term engagements.
“Digitalization and sustainability are at the very core of the Ayala group. We are excited to harness these synergies with Globe and help empower the Filipino people in a sustainable manner,” said Eric Francia, ACEN president and chief executive officer (CEO), in the statement.
Meanwhile, Ernest Cu, Globe president and CEO, said the move is a “significant” step for the company to achieve its goal of transitioning to RE.
“By working together with ACEN RES, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also demonstrating our commitment to providing innovative digital solutions for Filipinos towards a sustainable future,” Cu said.
