ACEN said it has registered its first batch of customers under the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) that enables end-users the option to buy electricity only from those who utilize cleaner sources of energy.
ACEN said it has been targeting customers with an average peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts for the past year.
The company did not provide specific number on the number of qualified users that signed up for GEOP services from ACEN’s portfolio of operating solar and geothermal plants in the Philippines.
“We are proud to launch this program for our first customers, and also for the country, as it signals our country’s pivot to renewable energy. Renewables are even more sensible at this time when fossil fuel prices are skyrocketing and to preserve our planet for the next generation,” said Miguel de Jesus, ACEN executive director and head of commercial operations, in a statement.
ACEN currently has over 3,800 megawatts (MW) of attributable capacity in the Philippines and across the region, of which over 3,300 MW or 87 percent is from renewable energy (RE) sources.
ACEN targets to build 5,000 MW worth of RE projects by 2025. – Jed Macapagal
