Ayala-led power generation firm, ACEN said its 252 megawatts (MW) wind farm in Quang Binh, Vietnam has reached commercial operations.

ACEN said the project, developed with its partner AMI Renewables, is expected to produce 648 gigawatt hours per year, enough to power 270,000 homes and help avoid 580,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Patrice Clausse, ACEN head of international group, said the wind farm with a development cost of VND8.11 trillion, equivalent to roughly P18 billion, will play a critical role in helping Vietnam achieve its renewable energy target especially since it was completed even amid the pandemic.

The 252 MW wind project is the third facility developed by AMI AC Renewables, the joint venture firm of ACEN and AMI.

The first two power plants jointly built by the parties are the 50 MW Khanh Hoa and 30 MW Dak Lak solar farms which started operations in 2019 which will be followed by a pilot battery energy storage system that will also be located in Khanh Hoa, Vietnam.

AACEN targets to build 5,000 MW worth of renewable energy projects by 2025.

ACEN’s attributable capacity at the end of the first half of 2021 hit 2,589 MW with the start of construction of new projects in the Philippines, Vietnam, India and Australia. – Jed Macapagal
