AC Energy Corp. said its 88 megawatts (MW) NinhThuan wind farm in Vietnam started its commercial operations yesterday, October 4.

AC Energy said the project brings its renewable energy capacity in Vietnam to around 1,000 MW in operation and under construction.

AC Energy added the $155-million wind farm is expected to provide enough power for around 50,000 homes per year with renewable energy that can help avoid 298,551 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

The wind project is the second joint project between AC Energy and the BIM Group following the 405 MW NinhThuan solar farm, one of the largest solar farms in Southeast Asia.

“We are very excited to bring this new project into commercial operations ahead of the feed-in-tariff deadline, notwithstanding the many challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we continue to carve a niche for ourselves by developing some of the most notable renewable energy plants in Vietnam to date, we will continue to accelerate our investments in renewables in the country and aid in its goal to increase the share of renewables in their energy mix,” said Patrice Clausse, AC Energy International’s chief operating officer, in a statement.

Meanwhile, Eric Francia, AC Energy president and chief executive officer, said that they already identified Vietnam as a priority market. – Jed Macapagal
