AC Energy Corp. and UPC Solar Asia Pacific, through their joint venture company UPC-AC Energy Solar, have started the commercial operations of two solar power projects in India.

These are the 140 megawatts peak (MWp) Sitara Solar and 70 MWp Paryapt Solar.

The facilities, which involved an investment of around $100 million, comprised more than 466,000 solar panels capable of producing around 358 gigawatt hours annually or an estimated 323,990 metric tons of carbon dioxide avoided.

“Switching on our first two solar projects in India is a major milestone that strengthens our position in India’s renewables space. As we expand our renewables footprint in the region, we remain fully committed in helping India achieve their sustainable energy goals and aid in the country’s socio-economic progress, especially during these challenging times,” said Patrice Clausse, AC Energy International chief operating officer, in a statement.

UPC-AC Energy Solar is poised to start the construction of 420 MWp more of solar assets in India within the year.

Apart from India, AC Energy has projects in Australia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

At present, AC Energy’s portfolio stands at around 2,500 MW of attributable capacity from projects in the Philippines and abroad with 1,900 MW coming from renewable sources.

AC Energy’s ultimate target is to reach 5,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2025. – Jed Macapagal
