Aboitiz Power Corp. is considering the development of a natural gas-fired power plants in two company-owned locations.
Emmanuel Rubio, AboitizPower president and chief executive officer, said in a virtual briefing on Monday, the plans are still in early stages but one area being eyed is the former site of the
Redondo Peninsula Energy (RP Energy) coal-fired power plant.
“Since we have communicated that in RP Energy, we will not be building coal anymore, we are actually reserving that site for possible gas option to supply a CSP (competitive selection process) by Meralco (Manila Electric Co.) or another distribution utility having a CSP for mid- merit or even as provider of ancillary service for NGCP (National Grid Corporation of the Philippines),” Rubio said,
But he added the company is not closing its doors on coal-fired energy investments saying there are areas in the country where coal is competitive.
