Aboitiz InfraCapital through LIMA Water, is keen on pursuing more sustainable projects and renewable energy after the implementation of a solar panel project at its Sewage Treatment Plant 2 (STP 2) in Lipa-Malvar, Batangas.
The company said the solar project completed last April is capable of generating as much as 400 kilowatt hours of electricity daily which is enough to power the STP 2.
Aside from reducing the facility’s energy costs, the shift to renewable energy is also expected to eliminate approximately 100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting over 3500 trees.
“Harnessing the power of renewable energy is a fundamental part of LIMA Water’s commitment to protect the environment and promote sustainability through innovative technologies. Our solar project is a significant step towards addressing the pressing issue of carbon emissions to ensure a sustainable future for the next generations to come,” said Hazele Manalo, LIMA Water general manager, in a statement.
Last year, LIMA Water also integrated all its water systems through the implementation of SMART Water Network Technology that led to a significant reduction in the company’s operational costs related to repairs and fuel consumption.
The move also enabled LIMA Water to promptly address water- related concerns and ensure consistently high facility uptime, thereby benefiting the more than 150 locators of LIMA Estate as the company also considers the possibility of transitioning one of its major facilities to renewable energy sources under the Green Energy Option Program.
