AboitizPower’s 173-MWp Calatrava Solar Project in Negros Occidental is its fifth solar power plant to date.
Aboitiz Power Corp., through its renewable energy arm, Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI), has activated the 173 megawatts (MW) Calatrava solar project in Negros Occidental.
The company in a statement on Thursday said the project has the biggest capacity in terms of solar technology in its portfolio.
“Calatrava is our fifth energized solar facility and the largest capacity thus far in AboitizPower’s
growing solar generation portfolio… It adds more clean energy to the power mix, as well as valuable green jobs to the community,” said Jimmy Villaroman, ARI president.
“This project would not be possible without the help of the National Grid Corporation of the
Philippines. They have helped us energize the facility to deliver power through the Calatrava substation,” Villaroman added.
The company said since the start of the year, it has energized a total of 512 MW of energy projects, including the 159 MW Laoag solar and 94 MW Cayanga-Bugallon Solar power plants in Pangasinan, the 17 MW Tiwi binary geothermal power plant in Albay and the SN Aboitiz Power’s 24 MW Magat battery energy storage system in Isabela.
Last month, Aboitiz Power switched on the 45 MW Armenia solar project in Tarlac.
The company has over 1,000 MW worth of projects from various indigenous energy sources.
The company targets to add 3,600 MW of new RE capacity and have a total of 4,600 MW by 2030 and a total portfolio of 9,200 MW. For this year, Aboitiz Power allocated P73 billion in capital expenditures, more than double the P26 billion in 2023.
