With the Philippines still reeling from the effects of Tropical Cyclone Crising, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau identified at least 9,366 barangays in the country that are prone to rain-induced landslides (RIL) and flood, but this time due to the effects of Tropical Storm Dante and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
Based on MGB’s geohazards threat advisory issued on Wednesday, 15percent or 1,403 of the barangays at risk are in the National Capital Region (NCR).
MGB said the identified barangays are susceptible to RILs and flooding from July 22 to 25, 2025.
MGB’s list of barangays included those in the cities of Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Taguig, Makati, Pasay, Manila, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela as well as the municipality of Pateros.
Barangays in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Sorsogon, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Quezon, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan and La Union were also included in the list.
MGB also said in the advisory that the province with the highest number of barangays to experience rainfall until this Friday is Occidental Mindoro with 149 or 90.85 percent of its 164 total barangays listed under hazard from possible RILs and flooding.
In Luzon, Occidental Mindoro is forecast to have the highest number of its population experiencing rainfall until this Friday, the advisory added. MGB said 498,180 people or 94.83 percent of the province’s 525,354 population are expected to be affected.
Meanwhile, for Visayas, Antique is forecast to have the highest number of its population impacted by rainfall until this Friday. The agency said in the advisory that 555,267 people or 90.59 percent of its 612,974 population are expected to be affected
