8K MW of natgas capacity  expected until 2030

A total of 7,748 megawatts (MW) of natural gas-fired power plants are expected to go online until 2030, data from the Department of Energy (DOE) showed.

In a presentation shared by the agency, the first to start commercial operations, which is by March 2026, is the 450 MW power plant of Vires Energy in Batangas.

The 1,200 MW Quezon combined cycle power plant in Tagkawayan, Quezon Province by Orion Pacific Prime Energy Inc. is set for December 2026.

Another 1,200 MW by Quezon Power Philippines Ltd. Co. , the San Francisco combined cycle gas-fired turbine in Mauban, Quezon Province is slated to be finished in 2026.

The DOE said a 1,310 MW Pagbilao 4 and 5 combined cycle power plant being developed by Therma Subic Inc. in Pagbilao, Quezon Province is scheduled for completion by November 2028.

The 1,200 MW GN Power Sisiman liquefied natural gas combined cycle power plant by GN Power Ltd. Co. in Mariveles, Bataan is set to run by December 2028.

DOE’s list also included the 1,128 MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant of Global Luzon Energy Development Corp. in Luna, La Union sometime in 2030 as well as the 1,260 MW Santa Maria natural gas-fired power plant by FirstGen EcoPower Solutions Inc. in Batangas that still has no firm target operations date.

As of end-2022, the total on-grid installed capacity of natural gas-fired power plants in the country is at 3,732 MW or 13.2 percent of the 28,258 MW total installed on-grid capacity in the Philippines from all sources of power excluding battery storage and diesel-battery hybrid systems.
