The agriculture sector has so far lost, or suffered damage reaching P2.51 billion worth of crops, livestock, fishery resources, farming equipment and irrigation infrastructure, due to the combined effects of the southwest monsoon and Tropical Cyclones Mirasol, Nando and Opong, the Department of Agriculture said on Wednesday.

As of its 12 noon advisory on October 1, 2025, the DA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center said 85,671 farmers tilling 74,689 hectares suffered losses or varying levels of damage totalling 186,253 metric tons (MT) of agricultural produce.

On the bright side, the DA report said 66,976 hectares or 89.67 percent of all affected farms can still be rehabilitated and can recover from losses.  Only  7,713 hectares or 10.33 percent of the affected areas had no chance of recovering production losses.

The latest data on agricultural damage and losses were 28.7 percent higher than  the previous P1.95 billion recorded on September 29.

Damage or losses

The rice sector has so far lost 134,901 MT of produce worth P1.51 billion in 53,565 hectares.

Among high value crops, 32,470 MT of lowland and upland vegetables, commercial crops, root crops, spices, legumes and fruits, in 8,853 hectares, worth P705.12 million, were either damaged or lost.

The corn sector has so far lost or sustained damage to 18,871 MT of produce in 11,366 hectares, worth P278.14 million.

The livestock and poultry sectors suffered losses or damage to 2,253 heads of chicken, swine, cattle, carabaos, goat, sheep, duck, horse and turkey, worth P8.12 million.

The DA has so far tallied P4.72 million worth of damage to agricultural infrastructure; P3.28 million to irrigation facilities; and P143,000 to farm machinery and equipment.

Meanwhile, cassava farmers tilling 905 hectares have lost 10 MT of produce worth P260,000.

The DA said the latest reports on damage and losses, still being re-validated, came from the Cordillera Administrative Region, and the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Socckskargen.

Aid to farmers and fishers

The DA said that so far, it has distributed P766.42 million worth of agricultural inputs such as rice, corn, and vegetable seeds, and 1,651,623 pieces of tilapia, bangus and carp fingerlings.

The DA added it has distributed P54.14 million worth of agricultural inputs, tools and equipment, drugs and biologics, financial assistance and fuel assistance in Masbate.

The National Food Authority has so far delivered 2,706 bags of rice to local government units (LGUs) in the Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Bicol regions.

The DA also announced that 3,296,994 bags of rice have been placed on standby for delivery to LGUs and other relief agencies.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has also provided 50 pieces of plywood for the repair of boats, the DA said.

The DA added that P237 million worth of indemnification have been processed for insured and affected farmers through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp.  Affected farmers will also get up to P25,000 each in loans from the Survival and Recovery Loan Program of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council, which will be payable in three years at zero interest.

The DA added that it has deployed Kadiwa rolling stores to affected areas to provide cheaper agricultural goods for sale.

The agency also assured the public that it will continue to monitor any sudden changes in the prices of agricultural commodities, to ensure compliance with price ceilings in localities that have declared a state of calamity under the Price Act.
