The Department of Transportation through Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has completed 12 more social and tourism port projects in the last six months of the Duterte administration.
Social and tourism projects aim to provide coastal communities and fishermen with better port facilities to support and further propel socio-economic activities.
The completed port projects include the construction and improvement of Joroan port in Tiwi, Albay; San Roque Port in Tobaco City; Pontevedra Municipal Wharf in Capiz; of Mapanas Port in Northern Samar, and Brgy. Linungan Port in Akbar, Basilan.
The Quezon Port; Busuanga Port in Palawan; Villaba port in Leyte; Benoni port in Camiguin; Basilisa Port in Dinagat Island; Buenavista Port in Bohol, and Barangay San Rafael port in Ragay, Camarines Sur likewise underwent construction, repair and improvement.
Within the final stretch of the Duterte administration, the DOTr will continue to develop and improve regional connectivity and mobility for the benefit of the Filipino people.
Last month, DOTr reported a total of 596 seaport projects were completed from July 2016 to February 2022.
Of the total, 254 projects are under DOTr, 239 under the PPA and 86 are under the Cebu Port Authority.
However, 163 projects are still ongoing and are expected to be completed beyond this year.
The DOTr through PPA has completed 84 commercial and tourism ports in Visayas during the first five years of this administration.
Of the total 84 ports, 20 are commercial and 64 are social and tourism port projects.
