The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) may no longer reduce its water allocation from the Angat Dam of concessionaires next month to 48 cubic meter per second (CMS) from 50 CMS.
This means no water interruption may be experienced next month but lower water pressure will be implemented during off-peak hours.
“The 50 CMS allocation for the month of April was maintained. (We are looking into implementing) pressure management measures to manage the water that is being provided to us from the dam,” said Patrick James Dizon, MWSS division manager for Angat-Ipo operation management, at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public forum yesterday.
Dizon said the MWSS’ Corporate Office, the Regulatory Office together with the concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water are discussing moves to manage water pressure for summer.
“In a normal situation, water pressure is enough to reach the second floor. With this strategy, water will now be able to reach only the first floor. This way, we will lessen losses in our system as well as the consumption of our customers,” Dizon added.
Dizon said MWSS remains confident Metro Manila’s water reservoirs will be re-filled by rainfall by May and June.
Based on the National Power Corp.’s data as of yesterday morning, Angat Dam’s elevation was at 201.20 meters which is below the 212 meters normal high water level of the facility but still far from the 180-meter normal operating level of the reservoir.
