VIVANT Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of publicly listed Cebuano firm Vivant Corporation, has committed a total of P3 million to convert one classroom each at Mabolo National High School, Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School and Mandaue City Science High School so that students will have well-equipped science laboratories.
The retrofitting, to cost P1 million per school, falls under Vivant Foundation’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education support program.
Vivant Foundation is also allotting P1 million to enhance the Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) technical-vocational track of Cordova National High School.
The assistance is under Vivant’s Project Liadlaw and will enable the school to teach an enhanced EIM curriculum that incorporates solar technology. Under the assistance, Vivant will donate tools and equipment that will be used to teach EIM-solar.
Under its STEM support program, Vivant Foundation establishes science laboratories or donates science laboratory tools and equipment, sometimes both. It also supports the Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF) in Central Visayas and provides scholarship to RSTF participants who want to pursue STEM-related college degrees.
Project Liadlaw, on the other hand, involves upgrading the EIM tech-voc track in selected public senior high schools so that graduates will have the capability to install and maintain solar power systems, in addition to conventional electrical systems. The other component of Liadlaw involves solar electrification of remote off-grid schools, which will provide EIM-solar students hands-on training.
The retrofitted science laboratories in Mabolo National High School, Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School and Mandaue City Science High School are expected to be turned over shortly before the start of school year 2020-2021. The EIM-Solar assistance to Cordova National High School will be turned over in June to benefit enrollees for school year 2020-2021.
