The entire 18-kilometer Skyway 3 expressway connecting South Luzon expressway (SLEx) with North Luzon expressway (NLEx) will be opened this December initially for free to all motorists for a month.

This developed as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opens today, October 21, the Maitim and Kaybagal section of the ongoing four-lane Tagaytay Bypass road project in Tagaytay City, Cavite.

Skyway 3 will also serve as an alternative to EDSA, with its eight access points that traverse Makati, Manila, San Juan and Quezon City.

SMC is also targeting to deliver the northbound section of the Skyway extension project, which will connect SLEx directly to Skyway from Susanna Heights in Muntinlupa, by December.

With this, travel times from Susanna Heights through the Skyway System including Skyway 3, all the way to the Balintawak toll plaza of NLEx, will only take 20 minutes; from Magallanes to Balintawak, 15 minutes; from Balintawak to Ninoy Aquino International Airport, 15 minutes; and Valenzuela to Makati, 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, the DPWH said the opened initial segments of the Tagaytay Bypass road are part of the 8.59-km. Tagaytay Bypass road that will divert traffic within the congested city roads of Tagaytay, running through Luksuhin, Sikat, Zambal, Guinhawa, Patutong Malaki, Balagbag, Salaban, Kaybagal and Maitim road sections.

Tagaytay Bypass road when completed will reduce to only 20 minutes travel time from Alfonso towards Tagaytay City, saving as much as 33 minutes from the usual 53 minutes. – M. Iglesias
