Global technology company Dyson of the United Kingdom is putting up 166-million pounds (P11-billion) research and development ( R&D) campus in the Philippines, one of three major investments of the company announced yesterday.
Dyson said the new Philippines Technology Centre located at the First Philippine Industrial Park in Sto. Tomas, Batangas will span the equivalent of 92 basketball courts, and will bring together Dyson’s research, development and advanced motor manufacturing capabilities under one roof.
As part of the investment, Dyson aims to initially hire an additional 400 engineers and more than 50 graduate engineers who will join the team later this year.
Among other things, the R&D teams in the center will be focused on software, AI, robotics, fluid dynamics and hardware electronics.
The company said these fields of expertise are critical for Dyson’s high-performing products, from robotic technologies to air enhancement technologies, and beauty products, such as the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, which are increasingly enabled by software, sensors and connectivity.
The center is scheduled to be operational in the first half of 2024.
Dyson also announced it will open and advanced manufacturing plant for next generation batteries in Singapore and a technology center in the United Kingdom. – Irma Isip
